About me
Fine-art nature photography · Nature-based storytelling · Talks & presentations
I’m a science educator and nature photographer based in Colorado, where my passion for teaching and my love of the natural world deeply inform and inspire my photography. My work is currently featured in a year-long fine art exhibit at Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. Prior to returning to Colorado in 2011, I had traveled the world without ever truly documenting it—but something shifted when I picked up a camera for the first time and began capturing photos of birds, wildlife, and landscapes around me, especially close to home. I found myself drawn to the process of observing and communing with a subject, learning from it, and seeking to portray its unique beauty through the lens.
As an educator, I regularly bring these photographic experiences into my teaching—encouraging students to observe, explore, and connect more deeply with nature. Over time, birds have become the most prominent subject in my work. I never set out to be a bird photographer, but I’ve come to realize how strongly I’m drawn to their diversity, their presence in everyday spaces, and the patience they demand. These images—whether taken in my backyard or deep in the mountains—reflect the way I experience the natural world: with curiosity, presence, a profound sense of wonder, and gratitude.
